Friends,

We now have 24 sign up requests and, assuming no one drops out, it is a very good number to play with! After multiple conversations on this forum or in the direct messages, it looks like we should proceed with the two groups of 12, playing the round robin tournaments. The winner and runner up from each group will then play the semifinals and final to determine our first BBL champion. The website (https://tinyurl.com/ze-bbl) has been updated to accommodate this format. The group seeding will be done on Saturday, based on the snapshot of the ratings for each participant on that day. The whole list of 24 participants will be sorted by rating and the odd numbers (#1,3,5,...,11) will form the first group while the even numbers (#2,4,6,...12) form the second. After that we will be all ready to go! I will provide the final update after the seeding is complete on Saturday.

Thank you for the update Leoton, sounds like a great plan!

I suggest that during the play-off stage the matches should be played in 'best-of-three' format, i.e. whoever wins at least 2 out of 3 games wins the match up (gammons/backgammons are not relevant at this stage).

Yes Please!! Best 2 of 3, at the very least.

I would actually prefer this for all matches, even the round robin. The more games, the less luck plays a factor. I don't think it would take that much longer. And hey, we get more tourney games in!

7/25 update:

1. Two groups are now formed based on the ratings captured on 7/25, 6:30 PST. Please see the website to do a final look at the Code of Conduct, Rules, check which group you were placed to and who your opponents are. Bookmark the website on your browser: https://tinyurl.com/ze-bbl

2. We ended up with 23 players so far, therefore we still might add one more player before August 1. Please feel free to recruit and that new player will be placed to the group 2 as the seeding has already been finalized.

3. The rules have been updated with a “best of three” format added to the playoff games

4. If you are on a game limit, please make sure to make space for the our blitz league games in order not create delays!

5. You can simultaneously start any number of games in your group by inviting your opponents to a regular backgammon game with a message stated “BBL-1.” Both players can agree to either play a rated or unrated game - it is solely between you and it doesn’t have any impact to the tournament results.

6. I am creating a new forum thread called BBL-1 Results where the winners of each BBL-1 game are expected to promptly post the result of the game with the gammon indication (for the tiebreaker). Please continue using this thread for any tournament related discussions, but post your results in the new BBL-1 Results thread.

7. Please promptly remove any setting criteria preventing tournament players from challenging you

8. The official start date of the BBL-1 is August 1. However, since the seeding has been completed and the rules are set - WE CAN START NOW! Let’s communicate frequently and make sure everyone is playing fast!
