I'm in a post-tournament carry on game with him and I mentioned this issue.

Delay

At least 3 of the group-1 games started in the second week of February. That is inappropriately delaying the tournament. If there is a yellow card for reporting a result one day late, there should be a red card for starting games 8-11 days late.

Delays

Friends,

We had a few really uncharacteristic delays this tournament but all those games had significant impact on the playoff picture, so I wouldn’t want to tip the scale by ruling them one way or another before the actual results are in.

Let’s have some patience but finish up the playoffs in a real quick fashion. I would welcome any ideas on how we could avoid / minimize delays for the future tournaments.

Best,
Leoton

Delay

I'm sorry, my suggestion wasn't intended for this current tournament, as I agree rules can't be altered mid-tourney.

The current code of conduct states that a player not starting a game by the start date will receive a yellow card. I propose that this be changed to either a red card (Game excluded from score) or a yellow card per day until the game starts.

This yellow card should apply to both players, if neither has made contact via a direct message to the other player. If one player can demonstrate an attempt to contact the other before the start date, then only the non-compliant player will be carded.

If the red-card option is implemented then no points are awarded if both parties are guilty of failing to offer a game and contact the opponent. If one party can be shown to be innocent, then that player will be awarded the win.

Just my thoughts, happy to hear from others.

reward / punishment

I support any reasonable idea of reward or punishment, in the name of a fast game.
I'm a limited player and I'm a little worried about whether I'll be able to launch all the games on time, so I'm launching without waiting for the start date. I will be "saddened" if I get a "red card" because I don't have a free spot right then.

I support a yellow card for any violation of the rules - low rating, 2-days game, max games, etc. Because it's annoying to try several times to challenge someone who is "asleep" reading the rules and reply me with a delay of many days  , but any attempt to "prove innocence" will be one more engagement our host. That's why posting on the forum can be a one of solution for speed up (examp. if there is a problem with communication - I mean the last one   BossyBear was a good mediator and succeeded with pokhra).

only one feasible way to deal with slow players would be to use an average time per move like they have on gameknot website and bar people with slow times from participating, but, unfortunately, this site doesn't track it.
People have different perceptions of fast games, of blitz games etc, and all these yellow cards are not working IMHO.
