@friendly spirit As a group of BG lovers, which I guess we all are, shouldn’t we unite instead of disintegrate ? I think it is perfectly normal that people are allowed to give voice to their wishes and their frustrations, especially if it is done in a respectful way. I have been captain of the various Dutch teams since NT4, six years ago. The link to the NT1 and NT2 is new to me, as it is new to me that during the first NT”s this Robinround format was chosen. I find it rather unfriendly to blame a player who joined the NT two or three years ago, that he is not aware how the NT evolved, when there is no history of the NT easily accessible for those players of good will. I would like to share the following song, which I think says it all: "We are peace, We are war, We are how we treat each other nothing more." https://youtu.be/qIuy1a9IdHk I love this song and I wish you all very successful BG time, while I am recharging my batteries. Cheerio and have fun Annamarina |

@leoton I think we managed to struck a nerve there. But I do think this league based format does have some merit. Obviously it's not gonna happen here but I do think that the two can coexist in piece. So leoton if you are up for it we can work out a schedule that won't interfere with NT and come up with another competition. I'd be willing to help in any way (hosting, keeping score, developing some sort of website where it all can be posted, etc.) |

… "The Nations Tournament is the 9 years old and we should keep it like it is. So if you do not like the way the Nations Tournament you just have not to play it. About people you want to play faster go to play on a other site, this site is built this way and if do like the speed of the game, stop to complain and built your own site at the speed you want. I am feed up to ear you complaining about that And I finish with this : if you continue to try to change the way of this tournament and continue to complain about the speed of the game : I will stop to be the scorer, so you will have to find somebody else to take care of the score." WOW, just WOW. Talk about democracy and voicing opinions... The voting is still on, Proposal A (Leoton's format) - 1, Proposal B (old format) - 0. Don't be shy, let your voice be heard! |

I am surprised , bad surprised. Someone holds the rights to the tournament. Its ok. But players make tournament! We, ordinary participants just move the dice without the right to vote? Not fair, not democracy, not friendly. What's wrong with trying to express an opinion and improve old format? - keeping tradition. What's wrong with discussing Leo's idea? - Totally different NEW challenge. See how wisely one young person reacts. He doesn't separate us, he union us! Xapko says: the two formats can exist "peacefully" together. Im proud he is part of my team! |

Proposal feedback First of all, I wanted to say that proposing a new format meant absolutely no disrespect to our distinguished host Yiannakos, webmaster Ricetta, and scorer Bonne Chance. You all have been doing a truly tremendous job managing our yearly Nation Tournaments and it is utterly appreciated! I design solutions for living and, after reading multiple concerns from the players about lagging issues in the last couple of tournaments and experiencing it myself, I felt compelled to give it a try to come up with something that would make our collective experience better. I also deeply believe in the democratic process of decision making. That’s why I simply asked to consider this proposal and either vote it in or vote it down. No hard feelings in any outcome. Bonne Chance - I saw your response and found its tone unnecessary harsh and authoritative. Let’s us all not engage in the war of words - while we are all fierce competitors in the game, we are also a really respectful and friendly community online! We are all living in the tough times these days so let’s this site be a uniting, not divisive place to communicate. Lastly, I wanted to sincerely thank everyone who provided feedback for the proposal I posted. Let’s have a truly democratic vote per Blokhin2 feedback. If this idea is voted down for NT9, I would be more than happy to go along with majority and play according to the current rules. In this case, assuming there is enough interest, we can, paraphrasing xapko87 feedback, create a separate round robin league, played sometime in the beginning of the year and not interfere with the NT timelines. Big thanks for all of you! |

My say This thread is for NT9 signups FULL STOP. What Leoton is proposing is a totally different tournament which should have its own thread. I will not be signing up for it as many players will be excluded: Iranians and others who are not members will not have enough space for 16 simultaneous games. |

New thread Hi everyone. Count me in for Team USA! And I would like to thank yiannakos, Ricetta and Bonne Chance for running this fun, exciting and clearly popular tournament that brings people together from all over the world. I agree with yiannakos that we should keep this thread for sign-ups only, as it was originally intended, and start a new thread to continue the discussion of ideas for making the tournament more efficient, enjoyable and fair. I will be happy to compete in the NT again in any format—new or old. But I think it’s a good thing to get the perspectives of players and see if we can find a general consensus on ways to improve an already excellent tournament. And I hope the hosts of the NT are willing to participate in the discussion and consider new ideas in an effort to increase the enjoyment for everyone. Thanks. -Jim |
