@yiannakos Sorry yiannakos but the topic "Nations Tournament 9?" (note the question mark at the end) got us fooled that it was a discussion about the forthcoming tournament. The question mark actually got me believing that you were willing to have a discussion about it and hear other people's opinion. Foolish of me, I know. Next time i suggest you get your topic title right. "NT Signups FULL STOP." would've been a great example and no one would've dared proposing alternatives. P.S. When you're trying to dictate things single-handedly, it's never a good idea to give people a chance to express their opinion. It's too democratic. |

@yiannakos +1 to what Xapko said. The less power people have the more they are trying to use it. |

English 1.2 The question mark is to find out if there's any interest, after all I think I specified that in my message. This thread is for signups. Suggestions have been posted before concerning NT tourneys but establishing a new type of tournament clearly belongs in its own thread. |

Courtesy for beginners I would argue that posting suggestions is the ultimate level of interest. Sadly you are not interested in hearing any of that. All suggestions were posted with the intention of making the current format better. Or would you rather have us interested but not too much? |

I am in Ahhh so there are voices now for fast tourney, wao....I tried my best in initial tourneys to make some rules for speed up things but was never listened so I stopped asking. New idea is very good but I would suggest to launch it with some other name in new thread and ask for interested members to play in it...in past there were several co existing tourneys...blokins, dear I reckon u were part of Champions tourney (one of the very first private tourney) also and we played round roubin stage there, get some old gang back and start it again.. And let NT same as it is, Thanks to host, scorer and web master for arranging new tourney. |

Gammon glutton Just an old dog willing to play this game any way I can. Love the tournaments. Don't really care how long it takes, I got the time. If you want to post several types of tourneys, with cube, aceyducy, nackgammon, bring it on. The more the merry-er!š¶ |

My 2 cents We should absolutely be able to have conversations about the tournament, but those conversations should be in a separate thread. Otherwise, everything gets convoluted and difficult to follow. This thread should be for those **interested** in playing in NT9. The point of creating this particular tournament was to get to know people from around the world, hence the name Nations Tournament. As Yiannokos mentioned, with the proposed format, there are a lot of players who would not be able to participate due to game limits. I have no problems with creating a tournament in that format, but it should be a new and separate tournament. It may end up going faster, it may not, **there are factors beyond the structure of a tournament that delay games**. But the intent of the Nations Tournament was to get to know some of the players better. For my part, I've had conversations with people in the tournament that I'd seen for years and played, but never really chatted with. It's also given me a chance to play people I couldn't play because my ranking was too low, or their games were always full. I enjoy the games that go quickly, but I'm not fussed with those that take a bit longer either. It's meant to be enjoyed, a small break from the crazy reality of life - especially in 2020! |

Closing the topic of change After reading some of the responses here, I didnāt plan to continue that conversation. However, I figured that I needed to correct the record on one point: There was absolutely no limitation for the players without annual membership, as the proposed format assumed UP TO 15 games started simultaneously and not necessarily all 15. Just wanted to correct that perception. I also understand that players who run the Nations Tournaments did not have any desire to even discuss any changes to the existing format, so we will be organizing a separate round-robin league and open a different thread for this on the forum. It is very unfortunate that the simple desire just to open a discussion about potential improvements and put it to a democratic voting process has met with such an unnecessary hostility. Agreed with Ricetta - letās use backgammon for enjoyment and not for fighting with each other. We have enough troubles in the world we now live in. My sincere best wishes to you all and everyone! |
