Slow play in tournaments

Make forced moves in tournaments automatic. That .might avoid unnecessary delays and speed things up a bit.

Slow tournaments

I don't play the tournaments because they take too long. If they are being held up by people taking extended breaks, then that's no damn good.

Who the hell...? @guthers

You raised one good point - about forced moves. I think it should be standard for all play. If someone wants to see what happened (or how) between turns, they can easily go through the turns history, move by move. However, for now, it’s a player's preference for whatever reason they choose...

Likewise, it is and should be the same thing for using vacation mode & up to 3 days between moves. Most everybody on here has a life away from backgammon - it's not the only thing about their day. As much as I love the games & conversations, I can't play all day, every day. Sometimes I do get wrapped up in the games so much that I need a break just to get other things & neglected tasks done - and to reset my priorities. I'm sure many here identify with what I'm saying.

Besides responsibilities around the house, some people have a job while others are involved in their communities, are busy with their spouse & family and take trips & vacations. WiFi is not available everywhere... besides, while gone they're usually too busy to even think about Zoo Escape. It's not just for emergencies. Still, in an emergency I think to go to vacation mode among other things to do before I have to leave home. I’m not the only one – what’s strange about that?

All of that said, guthers, it comes down to a PERSONAL CHOICE within the guidelines accepted by all on here. You are not the only one here, and your priorities & preferences don't dictate the same for everybody else - no more than theirs control you. You know nothing about emteeu to be calling them or anyone else selfish.

If you really need speed, consider playing on the Backgammon Galaxy website. When I last played there you had only 1 minute between moves, but only on one game at a time.

Howler

Nobody expects anyone to play all day and every day. This place is unique in my experience because you're not playing in real time. The beauty of that is you can check in for just 5 or 10 minutes and make moves in all the games where it's your turn, and that's it. Once or twice a day, I'm sure anyone can manage that between sessions on Twitter or Facebook. If you can't then just play standalone games so that you're not delaying an entire tournament.

That tournament game with no forced moves and two closed out on the bar hasn't moved for a day and a half now, which is ridiculous. It could be another ten rolls before that player can actually move again. That's maybe 2 weeks instead of 5 minutes. Stupid and selfish. There's no reason.

(Incidentally, I have binned galaxy because of the ethos of its owner and when it went app based I lost my account history. To play live there's backgammonhub or studio heroes. There's also another very addictive app called playgem.)

And

Yes, I think it's selfish if someone's PERSONAL CHOICE causes delays for a lot of other people.
