It happens. An opponent suddenly times out of your game(s) with them. If you check their game history they've also timed out of their other games. Game status shows they have no active games and maybe they've been offline for an extended time. Game challenges & messages are unanswered - all leading to the conclusion they've probably passed on from mortality into the eternities.

Due to the online yet relatively anonymous nature of our profiles, it's difficult to know what's going on with our opponents even if you have conversations during your games. Maybe through them you learn their name & where they're from, but not much else. Vacation mode or up to 3 days between moves gives little indication something has happened.

Because a lot of us on here are older, retired and/or handicapped, sometimes the games on here are a nice escape and a way of passing the time. Almost never do we know when the end comes for us - gradually & peacefully or sometimes suddenly, but almost always without warning.

Here is a way or place to pay tribute to those we know or deduce have died & passed on. May we all have bright days and enjoy good competitive games until then...

She lived in Vancouver BC and was in her 80s. Always a great sport I could count on her for some good games & conversation. The last I heard from her she said she wasn't doing well (dizzy) after what sounded like a minor surgery. By then she'd timed out of most of her games and was starting over in the ratings & on the ladders. Then I had to go into vacation mode for several weeks because of my own health problems. When I returned she had timed out of our new games. In checking, she didn't have any games going and had been offline for over a month. An unanswered challenge & message leads to the conclusion that she's gone the way of some of our other friends. RIP.
