Ratings

Does anyone know how the ratings are calculated? I read somewhere backgammon ratings take into account the length of the game so you score more points for winning a longer game but I’m not sure if that’s true on this site. I thought this site used the Elo system can anyone confirm or point me to an explanation.

The formula that Zooescape uses is here and it is very basic, based solely on rating and game outcome: https://zooescape.com/help-answer.pl?question=14

Some sites, like Backgammon Galaxy, use a more involved calculation that takes into account your error rate and luck factor. Part of the calculation includes factoring the number of individual decisions that a player had to make over the course of the game, so a longer game would almost by necessity involve making more decisions. Whether that automatically translates to a higher increase in rating, I'm not sure. Here is Backgammon Galaxy's explanation of their rating system: https://backgammongalaxy.com/academy/f-a-q
