Ranking & Skill

I've recently been studying my game and have been improving. As a result, my zooescape ranking has gone up. Woot!

I'm curious to know how I add up in the grand scheme of things. That is, am I a novice, beginner, average? My current ranking is around 1550, up about a hundred points over the last month or so.

I haven't gotten out to play in the real world, so I'm asking you guys.

Any opinions? Or, do these zooescape rankings mean anything outside of this virtual world?

Cheers, Hobart

PS
I thought I posted this earlier, so I apologize if this ends up being a double post.

Making headway.

You played well against me Hobart. Won 5 of 7 so your game looks good.

Thanks!

Thanks, Charmed!

I did get some lucky rolls with you   but that was also at the time when my training was kicking in to gear.

I think those 7 games really helped my game in general.

Ranking & Skill

From my experience in playing over the board much insight can be gained and I believe the upper spear of 1800 plus would be competitive in over the board play anywhere. Of course when the game is played with the cube it is much different. 1500 to 1600 in over the board play with the cube might be relative to an intermediate player. But one would have to make a distinction between tournament play and head to head money play as well. Some players play well in tournaments but poorly in money play and the reciprocal is true as well. In the early 70's I had opportunity to play with some really good players who explained, the theory of the game very well... and recommend some excellent reading material as well...one way or another!

Interesting, Dino.

I have a book which hits on some of what you're talking about - that it's really a pretty psychological game, much like poker where strategy and chance are part of the game.

I think I'm going to try some "over the board" play here soon!
