r4zzm4t4aa vs AJ1968 r4zzm4t4zz will be advancing- match is decided (third game not complete but is not a factor in the result. thanks ps- I have not seen it mentioned here but in the past on other forums it would be correct for the opponent to report the other person advances - has that been discussed the "proper" way to report? |

reporting wins/loses Hi r4zzm4t4zz, I'm not sure about the proper way to report advances, but I'm pretty sure that talking about yourself in the 1st person is ok Congratulations to everyone who's through to the second round! ps, great job, blokhin, sideshowbob and anyone else who helped get this off the ground. |

CT #1 update Only one pair is still playing in Round 1 of the tournament: Pair 1: Abriscoe (1826) vs. Peter Hill (1621) - 1:2 - winner Peter Hill Pair 2: blokhin2(1821) vs. zulu_warrior (1655) - 2:1 -winner Blokhin2 Pair 3: sideshowbob2012 (1790) vs. nightking (1656) - 3:0 - winner Sideshowbob2012 Pair 4: KumaraKid (1778) vs. josicat (1659) - 2:1 winner KumaraKid Pair 5: AbeFromann (1768) vs. kev howlett (1683) - under way Pair 6: Stewie (1759) vs. TawnyaH (1691) - 2:1 - winner Stewie Pair 7: r4zzm4t4zz (1748) vs. AJ1968 (1700) - 2:1 - winner r4zzm4t4zz Pair 8: servechilled (1731) vs. whisk01 (1714) - 3:0 - winner Servechilled One thing is pretty clear - even this best-of-three format resulted in 10+ days first round. If we decide to go for say best-of-5 ( or 9 or 11 as R4zz was suggesting) this might result in a long, long wait for many participants. I think we should keep it realistic and not to extend it beyond say best-of-5... |

What about... What about a slightly different tournament format. Each player plays each other twice. So if there are 16 players, we each play a total of 30 games. The games are played in a league format with the winner getting poins with bonus points for a gammon or backgammon. At the end of the league games, the top four players play against each other in a knockout format semi-final and final. The benefit of this type of competition is that each player is involved in the tournament beyond the initial 3 games and that there is incentive to try and win BIG - by a gammon or backgammon (to get extra bonus points). We could also use the cube if the majority of players wanted to do so. Your thoughts?? |
