USA1 - Canada Could the captains anniewann and itisme please check whether this game: http://zooescape.com/backgammon.pl?v=200&gid=1933773&p1=dadooo&p2=lilwarrior was a nations tournament game, as yiannakos has indicated it is still not recorded and I can't see any other game between the 2 players. |

Tie breakers in the groups The current rule for teams level on points at the end of the group stage is: 1) Victory percentage (which I take as identical to most games won in the 3 matches) 2) Head to head record in match(es) between the teams 3) One game play off (One game between the captains? One game with consultation between team members?) Can I suggest a change for the NEXT tournament which would be to reverse 1 and 2 so that head to head result becomes more important? I think that would make more sense. It is possible we could finish level with USA but they progress even though we beat them in match day 1. Maybe number 3 could use a bit of clarification too. I like the idea of a single game with team members allowed to discuss moves - within the time period. |

Tie breakers The tie breakers were established when some teams had three members and others had four, so percentage - rather than differential - was taken into account. I, personally, am opposed to the head-to-head taking priority over games won percentage. I prefer we leave it as a secondary tie-breaker. We do have a question here and I would like to have everyone's input: in our playoffs we are bound to have a few 8-8 scores. What happens in that case? 1. Should we let the captain v. captain encounter count double? 2. Should we allow for an extra game between two players each chosen by their own teams? 3. Some other suggestion? |

And on I understand that, but if team A beats team B in the normal rounds they should progress if they subsequently finish level on points. Win percentage rather than differential does make sense if that match was drawn, or if 3 teams finish level and can't be separated by match results. As for the play off, if another full match is played which finishes 8-8 then how about a final single shoot out between the captains possibly with advice from other team members? |

Playoff tie-breakers The shortest route would be to take the already-played captain v. captain result but, if anyone prefers a one-game shoot-out, it should be the best player of each team that plays - not necessarily the captain. |

Do you mean the player with most wins in that match or the highest rating? The problem with counting a normal game twice would be, imagine all the other games have been played and the score is 8-7, then the two captains play. It effectively is a decider even though one team is already in the lead, as the trailing team wins the match merely by drawing level. There really has to be an extra game as a breaker. |

Tie Breakers Recommendations: 1. Have two (2) teams play one another entire match winner of their entire matches breaks the tie 2. OR team member nominate a player to play represent their team 3. OR captain to captain. |
