balance

we want as many good competitors as possible--

dont know what the anser is when it comes to the pace of play

we shall see--

this website IS slower play than others-

i rememebr a suggestion back last week about a SPEEDY tournament- for those who want to play faster-

playiing SPEEDy so far is not a requiremnt for this tournament-

maybe we can make another tournament for speedy players -- as a spin off- say the first 50% to finish qualify

i dont want to come down hard and fast on anyone for the speed of play- everyone has different expectations and abilities--

so we should all remain calm cool and remember the first and most important this is to keep it fun-

I appreciate all of the input and it all makes for good conversation but for now this T moves on-- as it is--

I was just wondering if we had any volunteers for hosting another tournament--

I think that we can really make something of this and have kind of a committee that maakes decisions about thes type of things but in order to be on the committe must host a t.. and past hosts could help future hosts- --

or something like that-

I have time right now to give so I do not mind and I think the pace of play is acceptable- we dont have to finish this t this week. I am more interested in attracting the best players that this web site has to offer and see them play in a match play format--

i am NOT impressed with super high ratings where people have very little or no activity --

playing is fun- - and that is all I am trying to encourage.

anyone want to HOST the first SPEEDY t? we can spin that off of this one as soon as 12 players finish their matches.??

hosting speedy

R4, After seeing all that you have had to deal with in this one I don't want to host but I am certainly up for playing in the 1st speedy T. Thanks again for your trail blazing efforts.

NOW we can start some conversation-

First of all - I think we should have TWO forums- one for conversations like this and another for RESULTS- where ONLY RESULTS should be posted--

it would make things easier to verify when and IF that was necessary which brings me to the MEAT and POTATOES of THIS message--

I just updated the standings- and want to use the current standing to explain my THOUGHTs on the rules-- specifically tie breakers

the 8th position has a three way today (TODAY) that will change momentarily...

but for example purposes only lets look at this three way tie for 8th--

that is ITISME ---OLDMAN-- and SIDESHOWBOB

then I looked at those matches between those three- each person won one and lost one -- could not settle the tie based on the matches between them- so I went to the player profiles- and looking at the games WON percentage-

I saw SSB with 56.36 %
ITIS ME with 52.83 % and OLDMAN with 57.51%-

so as the HOST in this situation 9 and fortunatley I am not making a decision today)

I would advance OLDMAN becasue he tied in the matches- with the other two players and had a higher overall winning percentage--

cant wait to see the response(s) I get to this one-- and I defer all opinions to the rule of interpretation- hosting has its problems so I MUST be able to intepret --and come up with what I believe as the FAIR result--

play ON!! hopefully we will not have a complicated finish-

And If you want I can spin off the speedy tournament when the time comes and incorporate the results at the bottom of the same web page--

on that tournament there would be a clock-- but as I have stated there is NO CLOCK on this tournament so PLEASE just try your best to get er done..

thankx

You are the host and I am comfortable with whatever decision you reach on tie breakers. I would suggest keeping it as simple as possible and making it clear as early as possible before the results start to take shape which you are already doing. The results are going to change a lot as the final matches are played. There are some players who aren't in the top 8 right now that will be, and some players like me who are in the top 8 right now that most likely won't be once the RR is complete. The process you describe above in your 'dry run' seems very apt to me. Just my 2 centavos.

last place ties

I like the hypothetical results of your thinking for tie breaking....

However, all the eighth place players worked the same to get there and should have at least an even shot at continuing.

At that point the first stage of the tournament is over except for deciding who will occupy the final spot.

All those tied should be able to play a few games quickly to determine that last place.

So a simple one day playoff between them could be figured out by the "host." If there are three players, maybe three games with each, or just one until a winner is decided.
If there is an even number tied, divide them up in two brackets and let them playoff.
In the spirit of having fun and being fair, I think most in that position would like to roll it off.

**Of course, games won percentage could also work!! lol

just updated again

and now it is a two way tie for that 8th spot between SSB and ITSME

looking at the match between the two of them - SSB defeated ITIS ME so he would advance--

make sense?

jsut trying to inform everyone so when and if the time comes everyone understand the rules-- and I just hope it is an easy decision to make without alot of controversy--

also thinking about the SPEEDY T==

might be best to wait for the first 16 to finish so it could just be a straightfoward bracket tournement -- starting with 5 point matches - then 7, 9, and 11 final--

I will run that unless sonmeone else wants to jump on it..

another good idea-- A PRIZE

when I hear a good idea-- I want to hear what everyone thinks

we can offer a PRIZE to the ultimate winner-

it was suggested that -- the final eight agree that whoever wins the other seven players agree to a quick resigned game to the winner therefore each paying a little in to boosting the winners overall rating-- I like it but I ASK- why not get ti from all 30 entrants!!

any thoughts on this idea-- i think it is a good one.
