retiring from the ladder

I don’t want to speak for anyone else but I would venture a guess that most folks in this Tourney are very comfortable in taking everyone’s word that they have achieved #1 on the BG ladder. I for one am perfectly content in this regard. It's not like we are playing for money here   However, I know from personal experience that some folks take this very seriously. I don’t know about the rest of you but I have actually been asked by 3 players to provide evidence that I was once #1 on the ladder (no, I’m not kidding). For the record, I retired immediately after making it to #1 on both the BG and NG ladders within a month or 2 after joining in January because it became more of an annoyance than fun. I like R4’s idea (or was it someone else?) to also start inviting people who have placed in ZE Tournaments because getting to #1 on the BG ladder is a lot easier than placing in a ZE Tourney. Doing this in future Tourney’s will get even better players in the mix which is the best way to improve all of our games (although the competition in this Tourney has been excellent!). In my view, this and future Tournaments should be a whole lot more about having fun and a whole lot less about worrying and gnashing our teeth about who may or may not have been #1 on the BG ladder.

TIMING OUT

I think if someone times out they lose the match regardless of the points.

thats my initial response but would like to get some other thoughts-

I cant think of a reason to have a timeout--

unless you are in a natural disaster or some very strong reason that would have to be considered by the host....

but again- thats just my initial thought -

I will have to add a rule to the rules regarding time outs-

and by the way I will NOT be able to get the spreadsheet updated until tomorrow. (sorry about the delay but I am away from my computer with the software necessary

thanks
r4

have fun
love the game

Question about qualifications

I agree with the kid.

and I hope we have a third T when this one is done--

I will catch up with AL THE UPDATES TOMORROW-

best way to keep track of your games is to post the results by one or both as soon as the match is complete- sont wait to post results- and ALSO keep notes within the game as to what the score is at the start of each game--

although those messages are not able to be viewed by others you can keep track of the score and have a record IF you need it but so far I have not seen anything that is being CHALLENGED -- if an error is there I will correct it with just your request--

this MUST BE a friendly atmosphere- OR I WILL THROW YOUR A$# out lol - just kidding.. he he he

oh and by the way thanks Z for the clarification on the crawford rule - we are ALL better players expanding our horizons in backgammon..

ttys
I can play today but cant update the score sheet-

ZW's timing out question

Hope this doesn't happen but if it does it would seem the appropriate remedy would be that the person that TOs loses the game being played, but not necessarily the entire match. The placement of the checkers and doubling cube should also be in play. In other words, if the person that TOs still has checkers in their backcourt and the cube is at 2, that person would lose 6 points (2 cube x 3 for BG). In that case they would lose the match in a 5 pt Match. Another scenario could be that both players are both bearing off and a player TOs. In that case the player that TOs would only lose 1 point (unless the cube has been doubled of course). Like R4 says, I can't really see this happening but guess it doesn't hurt to have some rules in place in case it does. The main thing is to have fun and not take things too seriously

if it helps avoid any further issues

i do very much remember seeing uahskr on top of the ladder at least the once. it's a hard thing to prove as zooescape only tracks your current ladder progress from what i can tell. It would be nice to be able to see historical ladder wins (though i havent yet retired to know for 100% sure they dont) .. but i definitely remember him up there

either way.. im happy with the turnout and way this tourney has gone so far. lets enjoy it cause i dont think we're going to see any changes to ZE's game structure any time soon. seems like the site runs itself mostly now
