UNRATED GAMES

@yiannakos, @ChWaqasAhmed, @Esprit, @annamarina, @maidann, @Steelerhead
and all other respectful players

This message is repeated form the Result page.

Hello
In NT games, would it be ok if someone challenges you to a "unrated" game"??? Actually I find it somehow offensive and impolite. Please advise, as some recent games of our team are now pending due to this trouble.Thank you in advance.

P.S. As much as I know, this is clearly indicated in the Section FORMAT of the tournament regulations:
** Еach of members of a "home" team challenging each of members of the "visiting" team to a 3-day, RATED, NO CUBE backgammon game.

Thanks and regards,
Amir

Unrated Challenges

Dear community,

Zoo Escape provided us with the possibility not to be play with those players who frequently have shown unsportsmanlike behaviour by adding them to our ignore list. Since I have never had to play against players in my ignore list during official tournaments, I assume Zoo Escape respects the players' ignore lists by not teaming them up in tournaments as long as it is possible (eventually it becomes impossible to do so, if they make it to the last stages of the tournament).

Since it is technically impossible to use this useful mechanism in NT and I am not aware of any rules in NT regarding not allowing unrated challenges, I removed the two players of the Iran2 team who were on my ignore list temporarily from it and send them unrated challenges. That was a compromise between not wanting playing against them and proceeding with the game plan of NT7, because an unrated game also serves the purpose.

The claim unrated challenges are offensive is ridiculous. If such challenges were offensive, Zoo Escape would not enable them in the first place, yet delaying the tournament INTENTIONALLY by not answering the challenges (neither accepting nor rejecting) is disrespectful toward the other participants of the tournament.

Thank you for your consideration,
Plasmon

some necessary comments

Dear All,

I don’t really like to extend the dispute, anyway I feel some necessary comments on the Plasmon’s note must be given to light the minds.

- Re. Ignore List: Wrong understanding! When you’re in a Zoo tournament, esp. in the very last stages, they don’t ask if someone is already in your Ignore List or not. The point is -regardless of your favorite-, you should play anyone who is specified by ZE, otherwise you’re going to lose that game within three days.

- Re. Unrated Game: Again wrong understanding and interpretation. You just are allowed to open unrated game on ZE, when both sides are agreed to. Otherwise, if you have not the consent of your opponent, you’re not permitted to do so. On the other hand, this is correct just for the private games; ZE never ever opens an “Unrated” or “Cube” games for the tournaments, like as none of your “Limiting Criteria” would work thereon.

- In light of the above mentioned, considering NT is kind of a tournament -not a private game- between all of us, the same rules are all applicable. Everybody participating in NT knows that private settings like “points criteria”, “cube”, “unrated”, “ignore list” and so on should not be considered here as this is a REAL tournament. Once you accept to be in, means that you’re firmly committed to the all rules and regulations.

Thank you everybody for reading the long text and accept my apology for any inconvenience. I look forward to hear from the organizers, as 2 games are now pending because of the said trouble. Hope this could be resolved once forever and we don't see private judgments substituting the crystal clear rules anymore.

Best Regards,
Amir

@plasmon, @amir49

Many thanks for elaborating your different points of view.

From the heart, I can only comment on how it comes across:

If I was on somebodies ignore list and due to the scheme of a friendly unofficial tournament, that person send me an invitation for an unrated game, although we all are asked to send invitations for rated games, this not only comes across of bending the rules according to that person's personal ego, but it would truly come across to me as offensive. I hope plasmon, you have the grandness to apologize in private. This is really a nasty move of yours and it is very good that amir exposed it to the light.

Plasmon, have a good night sleep later on, digest this comment, which you may not like, as it comes across that you think of yourself of being very generous, and then start the new week with a new game and forget this....

Eventually Yiannakos should decide, whether this unrated game should be counted as a NT7 game or not

The rules are clear

The Nations Tournaments were meant to promote camaraderie and friendship. Can we please ignore the ignore lists at least for the duration of this tournament?

Amir49 is right: the games are supposed to be rated. The rules are quite clear on this matter and have not changed.

Please decline any unrated challenges and remind the challengers of the NT rules.

@ Rules

@Amir - i agree and completely support you.

My propose: (posted on 3August, in the begin)
* adding a new rule - unrated game isn't valid (sounds bad, impolite,..) - point for the other player. If not agree - maybe all games must to be unrated?!?!
** for players with max 25 games, the time to release the board is "not counted" for the delay.
*** If there is "a dilemma" (in play, not personal  ) - to be informed on the forum.

My idea for "updating" rules was inspired of previous NT-s.(I falled in the same situation.)
I continuous repeat "clear.... and clear rules".
As we have explicit "Rules", this mean specific Rules for NT, not the same as ZE Rules.

So, I'm sorry, im not happy but in this case, "technically" Plasmon is right. If he'll make the "sportsmanlike move"- apologize & decline - we'll expect.
Regards,
Rossi
