Computer simulations of Backgammon have been used to determine the best opening moves. Many of these moves were already agreed upon by the experts, but some were changed based on the results of those simulations.
In some cases, there is only one good move but in others, there are a few, each as good as the other. The moves are recommended and of course do not guarantee a successful outcome.
The table below shows the 15 possible opening rolls; recall that in backgammon, since the player who moves first is determined by each player rolling a die and then using the dice for their first move,
no doubles would occur as an opening move.
